Lucknow: UP Minister Siddharth Nath Singh on Wednesday came down heavily on Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his tweet on state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s holy dip at the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
Singh said, “How will he understand the importance of Kumbh? The atmosphere he’s in, the culture he has been brought up in, don’t understand this.” He also offered a word of advice to Tharoor and said, “You people have committed a lot of misdeeds, take a holy dip in Kumbh and you might be able to repent for your sins.”
A day ago, Tharoor had tweeted a photo of Yogi with a host of saints, all wading into Sangam for a holy dip. He captioned it with, “गंगा भी स्वच्छ रखनी है और पाप भी यहीं धोने हैं। इस संगम में सब नंगे हैं! जय गंगा मैया की! (Everyone’s at fault for we want to keep the Ganga clean but also want to wash our sins in it).”
Tharoor is known to make controversial statements. Earlier, he has stood by his highly controversial ‘chaiwala’ remark as well by claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could twist any statement made by him. He said, “The BJP is today in a condition that even if you drive safely on the road, they will come and purposely collide with you to make it look like an accident.”
Tharoor had said that it was only because of former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru that a ‘chaiwala’ was the Prime Minister today, at which the BJP hit back by saying that Nehru was the sole reason behind the existence of humanity.
The BJP took it up a notch further after it tweeted that Tharoor should not drag the great leader’s name into “mundane matters like that of making Prime Ministers”.
