Varanasi: The fake Twitter account of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthanman has the Azamgarh police in a tizzy. Reports said the crime branch and the cyber cell have got cracking to investigate this account that has the pilot praising Pakistan and its Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Varthaman, who was detained by Pakistan after his MiG 21 crashed and he landed in the neighbouring country, was returned to India on Friday as a ‘peace gesture’.
According to a leading daily, Azamgarh city SP Kamlesh Bahadur said that police have ensured immediate blocking of the Twitter account. The cyber cell has been asked to complete investigation, he said, adding that an FIR would be filed once the cyber cell investigation got over.
A local youth tweeted UP police to alert the cops about the Twitter account purportedly belonging to Wing Commander Varthaman. He said in his complaint that this fake account was created a few days ago by someone posing as Abhinandan and he reportedly also had a conversation with some of the followers.
The complainant also alleged that in the same conversation, the user was praising Pakistan and its PM. He said that he found this fake Twitter account when he came across the Facebook page of a local youth who had posted a screenshot of the same conversation between the account holder and his “followers”.
The complainant sought police action. SP City said that taking serious note of this complaint the crime branch and cyber cell cops were engaged. He said that the submission of their investigation report by the cyber cell cops is expected by Monday evening or Tuesday.
