Lucknow: A couple of days after acting swiftly against an alleged child molester on a train, UP Police has released a short clip urging passengers to be vigilant and to reach out to them.

The clip on UP DGP O P Singh’s official Twitter handle narrates the incident of an 11-year-old girl who was travelling with her father and was allegedly molested by an Army man. The girl shared her ordeal with her father who immediately tweeted about it. GRP responded to the tweet, the molester was removed from the train and a complaint filed against him.

Calling the incident sad, the DGP tweeted, “the only saving grace was the alertness of the social media cell of Agra GRP SP who responded quickly on a tweet and ensured action.

Singh adds that he would be conferring his commendation disc to the concerned police personnel.

Agra Cantt SHO was reported as saying, “A tweet was sent by the father of the victim while aboard Navyug Express. When the train stopped at Agra, the GRP and military personnel apprehended the jawan. An FIR has been filed under Sections of 354A (explicit sexual overtures) and Sections 7/8 of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The case will be handed over to the Delhi Police since the incident occurred there.”

The incident reportedly occurred when the family requested the jawan to swap seats with them as theirs were not together. When the train halted at a stop in New Delhi and the girl’s the father got down to purchase food and the mother took the girl’s younger sibling to the washroom, the jawan allegedly molested her.

The girl later told her parents after which the father tweeted to the Railway Police on social media. The ticket manager also helped the parents.
