Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh recorded its first Coronavirus death after a 25-year-old youth succumbed to the infection on Monday. Reports have it that he had a travel history to Mumbai, which he had hidden from the authorities.
After he fell sick, he was admitted to a hospital in Basti. However, he was later shifted to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur as his condition did not show any sign of improvement.
The first test report said he was positive. Another test, which was done at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, also confirmed that he had the infection.
When he was first admitted in Basti, he hid his travel history. As per reports, he is known to have travelled to Mumbai and Hyderabad. The hiding of the travel information also prompted doctors to admit him to the general ward.
“He told us that he had been sick for a month, if he had revealed his travel history, we would have admitted him the coronavirus ward,” News18 quoted OP Singh, District Hospital, Basti, as saying.
Authorities now fear that the deceased may have transmitted the virus to others.
Meanwhile, a total number of people infected with COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh has risen to 101.
