Sambhal: A Samajwadi Party (SP) worker has allegedly been shot dead by an unidentified person on Friday. Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Yamuna Prasad said that the SP worker was shot at by an unknown person at his residence itself. Prasad said, “He was shot by an unknown person at his residence. We are registering the case. An investigation is underway.” A probe is currently underway to ascertain the cause behind the attack. Meanwhile, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) worker was also shot dead allegedly by five unidentified assailants in Meerut on Thursday.

Ajay alias Guddu had come to Meerut on the same evening to escort his relative to an auto stand and was shot dead by five bike-borne assailants who dragged him out of his car while he was on his way back. The unidentified men fired at him and he died on the spot. Police confirmed the same.

An investigation based on the accounts of eyewitnesses and the CCTV footage from a petrol pump near the site is being conducted.

A few months back, a bullet-riddled body of a local Samajwadi Party worker was found at a deserted spot near Maharajpur village of Ballia district. Police had suspected personal rivalry as the reason behind his death.
