Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district updated its voters’ list and depicted the photograph of Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, a pigeon, a deer and an elephant next to the names of residents of the district. The matter came to light after two pages of the same was leaked to the media.

Officials were later questioned about the gaffe. The photograph of the film star appeared right next to the name of the 51-year-old woman while the photo of an elephant was next to the name of a 56-year-old man. As per a TOI report, a senior district official said, “While the list carries the picture of a scantily clad woman resembling Leone in place of voter Durgawati Singh of Vivekanand Colony, it carries photograph of an elephant against the name of former cabinet minister Narad Rai and picture of a deer in place of Kunwar Ankur Singh.”

The oddity was detected in the revised voter’s list prepared in Ballia Sadar tehsil on the directives of Election Commission. Similar was the case with many other voters. Some of the updated voters’ lists are still being checked and haven’t been made public yet. Moreover, district election officials took measures to correct the anomalies and transferred data entry operator Vishnudev Verma and also filed an FIR against him. Ballia Sadar SDM Ashwini Srivastava said, “Action had been taken in the matter even before I joined here some 20 days ago.”

Voter lists are being updated across Uttar Pradesh before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. As per reports, the first deadline was July 15 in Ballia.
