The major national parties which contested the elections were Indian National Congress (INC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Counting of votes for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election 2018 is underway and the trends have started to emerge. A single phase election for the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly took place on November 28, 2018 amidst heavy security. The major national parties which contested the elections were Indian National Congress (INC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Bhojpur: In the 2018 polls, BJP’s Patwa defeated Congress’s Pachouri by 29,486.
This constituency is a part of the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency. In 2013, BJP’s Surendra Patwa had won the seat. He had defeated his Congress rival Suresh Pachouri by a margin of 20,149 votes.
Sanchi: Sanchi Constituency is a part of Raisen district. It is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates. In 2013, the Vidhan Sabha seat was won by BJP’s Gourishankar Shejwar. He had defeated Congress’ Prabhuram Choudhary by a margin of 20,936 votes. For 2018 polls, the BJP has fielded Mudit Shejwar while Congress has retained Choudhary.
Silwani: In 2013, BJP’s Rampal Singh had won the Silwani Vidhan Sabha seat. He had defeated Congress’ Devendra Patel. For 2018 polls, BJP has fielded Rampal Singh while Congress has retained Patel.
Vidisha: In 2018 polls, Congress’ Shashank Bhargava defeated BJP’s Mukesh Tandon by 9574. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had registered thumping victory from Vidisha. He had defeated Congress’ Shashank Bhargava. Chouhan had bagged 73783 votes while Bhargava had garnered 56817 votes.
Basoda: In 2013, Congress candidate Nishank Jain had registered victory from Basoda Vidhan Sabha seat. He had defeated BJP’s Harisingh Raghuwanshi by garnering 68002 votes. For 2018 polls, BJP Leena Sanjay Jain defeated Congress’ Jain by 9315.
Budhni: In 2018, Shivraj Singh Chouhan defeated Congress’ Arun Yadav by 53,195.
Notably, Yadav is considered to be an ‘outsider’ by some residents of Budhni. Budhni constituency in Madhya Pradesh is considered a stronghold of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and three-time Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In 2013, Chouhan had registered a thumping victory over Congress’ Mahendra Singh Chouhan from Budhni Vidhan Sabha seat with a margin of about 84,000 votes.
Ichhawar: In 2018, BJP’s Karan Singh Verma defeated Shailendra Ramesh Chandra Patel by 15, 238.
In 2013, Congress’ Shailendra Ramesh Chandra Patel had registered victory from Ichhawar Constituency.
Khategaon: In 2013, BJP’s Aashish Govind Sharma had defeated Congress’ Shyam Holani by bagging 79968. For 2018 polls, BJP has retained Sharma and Congress has fielded Om Patel.
