The Uttar Pradesh Assembly election is a three way battle between the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election Results 2017, noted journalists like Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt and Prannoy Roy have predicted possible outcome of the Assembly polls. According to Rajdeep Sardesai and Prannoy Roy, the BJP has the best chances of winning the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. While their former colleague, Barkha Dutt refused to accept the predictions of others that the BJP has clear edge in the UP polls. Barkha Dutt said there’s close contest between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP and Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi led the the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance. Rajdeep Sardesai: A section of people believe Rajdeep Sardesai has never fair to Narendra Modi post 2002 Gujarat riots. But the renowned television anchor predicted the victory of the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh polls, admitting that predicting election outcome of Uttar Pradesh is an extremely tough task. In his article, published in Hindustan Times, said going by the performance of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh in 2014 Lok Sabha polls and the strategy to consolidate Hindu identities, it seems the saffron party is likely to win the UP polls. “Hindutva politics based on anti-Muslim propaganda and ‘hope’ embodied in the Modi persona offer a deadly combination: The UP voter may well be intoxicated by it this time,” Rajdeep Sardesai concluded. Prannoy Roy: A team of NDTV led by Prannoy Roy travelled across the Uttar Pradesh and came up with conclusion that the BJP has the maximum chances of the Assembly elections in the state. The Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance and the BSP will stand at second and third position respectively, predicted Prannoy Roy and team. The analysts, however, admitted that the SP-Congress ‘gathbandhan’ has changed the electoral numbers game in Uttar Pradesh, but said it won’t be able to perform like ‘mahagathandhan’ of Bihar.

Barkha Dutt: In a series of tweets, Barkha Dutt revealed her observation during her coverage of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017. Surprised by the forecast of other journalists, Barkha Dutt said there’s an absence of ‘wave’ and people may make extremely local choices despite macro contest of popularity between Narendra Modi and Akhilesh Yadav. Barkha, however, suggested that BJP’s vote share will go up and SP’s vote share could fall. “How wide the Up and Down is key,” tweeted Barkha. “BJPs win will make Narendra Modi victor nominee for 2019. A loss for ‘gathbandhan’ and if accompanied by no win in Punjab would mean survival crisis for Rahul Gandhi,” observed Barkha.
