Lucknow, March 1: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Asaduddin Owaisi have already started its campaign in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh where the party is contesting on 38 seats, most of them in minority dominated areas. In first two phases (Phase 1 and Phase 2) of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, 11 of AIMIM candidates have already tried their luck. In next two phases (Phase 6 and Phase 7) the AIMIM is contesting on 27 more seats. Although, the AIMIM may act as a spoiler in Muslim dominated areas of Uttar Pradesh but most of the youngsters and first-time voters prefer to chose their leader backed by Asaduddin Owaisi, a Lok Sabha parliamentarian.Also Read - Schools Reopening in UP: Normal Classes to Resume From Aug 16. AIMIM party President Asaduddin Owaisi had earlier said that he will field party candidates on all 403 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh but somehow the party managed to field 38 candidates in poll-bound state. In Uttar Pradesh, Muslims make 20 per cent of the state population and the firebrand Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad expects to make inroads in constituencies which holds substantial Muslim population. Some reports suggest that in Uttar Pradesh, there are around 70 seats where Muslims make 75-35 per cent of the population and in 90 seats where Muslims make from 32-20 per cent of the population. In last several years, Muslims living in Uttar Pradesh have preferred to vote for Samajwadi Party or Congress. But after the recent Akhilesh-Shivpal feud the situation is different in Muslim dominated seats and Asaduddin Owaisi is likely to start his innings in these areas. In 2016 Bihar Assembly Elections, Asaduddin Owaisi who is also known as a fierce critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had suffered a major jolt in the state, where his party failed to open its account despite full-fledged campaign. In elections across India, it is well-known fact that many seats are won and lost with a margin of a few hundred votes. Due to which most of the party contesting in the constituencies where AIMIM have projected its candidate, fear that Asaduddin Owaisi’s foray in the state may improve the chances of BJP candidates, especially in Western UP where he is furiously campaigning.

On January 9, the Hyderabad based AIMIM had already released its first list of 11 candidates contesting in phase 1 and phase 2 of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. After releasing a list of 11 candidates the party came up with the latest list of 24 candidates. As we all know the election in Uttar Pradesh will be fought in 7-phases – from February 11 to March 8 – two more phases are left.
