Lucknow, July 19: The headmaster of a government school in Baulia village filed a complaint against a Class VII girl on Tuesday for allegedly poisoning the midday meal at school to avenge her younger brother’s death. Circle Officer of Bhatpar Rani area, Brijendra Rai said that the girl had been handed over to a Juvenile Justice Board which then referred her to a juvenile home in Mirzapur district on Wednesday.
The girl’s younger brother died on April 2 after a student from the school hit him on his head with a stone. The class V student is presently in a juvenile home.
To avenge the death of her brother, the girl, also from the same school, added toxic substances in the midday meal, alleged the headmaster. Luckily the food was not served after the cook suspected foul play by the girl.
Police said the cook suspected that the girl had poisoned the food that was to be served to a group of 10 primary class students on Tuesday. RC Pandey, the district officer for food safety said, “A sample of the cooked pulses has been sent for testing and it will take at least three or four days to get the report,”
Bankata SHO Devendra Singh Yadav said an FIR has been registered against the girl under IPC sections 325 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence) and 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment). However the Station Officer of Bankata police station, Rajendra Prasad stated that the student had denied the allegations thrust upon her.
Police stated that, following the incident, villagers surrounded the school and beat up the girl’s mother.
The headmaster of the school reportedly said, “At around 10.30 am on Tuesday, the cook served the midday meal to 135 students. After they had their food and left, another batch of ten students arrived. When the cook went to the kitchen, she noticed that the colour of the dal she was about to serve had gone black, and a foul smell was emanating from it. She spotted the girl standing in a corner of the kitchen. Soon after seeing the cook, the girl walked out.”
After the foul play, police and a team from the food safety and drug administration department reached the school. Both the girl and her mother has been detained.
