New Delhi, March 9: In a shocking incident, a Dalit woman was burnt alive in Jajauli village of Ballia district in Uttar pradesh for allegedly not repaying a loan of Rs 20,000. The incident took place on Thursday when a group of people entered Reshma Devi’s (45) house and set her on fire with kerosene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

Speaking to PTI, SP Anil Kumar Singh said that on the basis of victim’s statement to the magistrate, an FIR has been lodged against Sonu and Siddhu Singh and both of them were arrested.

In her statement, the woman said that she had taken Rs 20,000 loan from the accused and even after repayment, they were demanding the interest from her, the police said, adding a probe into the matter is underway.
