New Delhi: At least four people died and 40 were injured after a truck in which they were travelling fell into a ditch in Chopan area in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The incident occurred when the truck was on its way to Chopan from Robertsganj.
Police said that the driver lost control and the vehicle fell into the ditch. The four deceased could not be identified yet. The injured have been rushed to a hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.
In a similar incident, three people, including an infant, were killed in separate road accidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district.
Sumitra (25) and her one-and-a-half-year-old son were killed on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding skidded off the road near Premgarh on the Raebareli-Faizabad National Highway, SHO Jagdishpur Ramakant Prajapati had said.
Sumitra’s husband, Anil Kumar, who was driving the motorcycle, was safe.
In another incident, a 52-year-old man, identified as Ram Raj Saroj, died after being run over by a speeding truck on Amethi-Raebareli road in Gauriganj, the police had said.
The truck driver fled from the spot, leaving behind his vehicle, which has been impounded, the police had said.
The bodies of all the three deceased had been sent for post-mortem.
