Lucknow, September 16: In yet another incident of communal clash in Uttar Pradesh, four Muslim men were killed while 10 were left severely injured in a gunfire that broke between members of two communities in Bijnore, Western Uttar Pradesh. The clash erupted on Friday morning when few youths from a particular community tried to molest a school going, minor girl. The incident reminds of Muzaffarnagar riots in which several members of one community was killed in 2013. According to reports, the incident happened on Friday morning when few girls fromPaida village in Bijnore were on their way to school. The girls were reportedly stopped by few Muslim youths outside their village. While some of the girls complained about the harassment to their family members, they reached the spot with villagers. The police said that the two groups – eve teasers and victims – indulged in an aggressive talk which turned violent in few minutes and both the sides started pelting stones on each other. As the news spread, a number of people from both the communities allegedly joined the clash that ended in gun firing from both the sides. Both the groups also threw a brickon each other due to which a number of people faced minor injuries. Soon after the violence was reported to control room, police officials rushed to the spot. the police said that four youths – Haseenuddin, Sarfaraz, Ahesan and one more – were killed in the gunfire, whereas more than 10 people were injured in the firing. The police said that the victims who lost their lives belonged to the same community and three of them were brothers as well. Tension prevails in Bijnor district as the violence continued in the village for more than an hour. The injured were rushed to Meerut. Uttar Pradesh ADG law and order Daljeet Chaudhary reportedly said that seven people have been arrested and the situation in the village is under control. Javed Ahmad, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police, told a news channel that there were ‘unprovoked firing’ from one side which led to deaths of four men. The clash site is around three kilometres away from the city and falls under the Bijnor city police station. The police said that the incident is serious which took a communal turn as both the groups belonged to different communities. In last several years, Uttar Pradesh has seen multiple cases when eve-teasing have led to communal violence. In fact, the Muzaffarnagar riots started due to eve-teasing which later took a communal turn.
