Lucknow, June 28: A thunderstorm accompanied by rain and dust storm is likely to hit Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Aligarh and other adjoining areas, in next two-three hours, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) predictions. On June 8, twenty-six people were killed in dust storms and lightning that struck parts of Uttar Pradesh. “As many as 26 people were killed due to dust storms and lightning strikes in 11 districts of Uttar Pradesh,” a government spokesperson said. While five deaths each were reported from Jaunpur and Sultanpur, four died in Unnao, three each died in Chandauli and Bahraich, two in Rae Bareli and one each in Mirzapur, Sitapur, Amethi and Pratapgarh, he added. In another incident on June 14, dust storms hit various parts of UP, leaving 15 people dead and 28 injured. Fifteen people were killed in dust storm. Six died in Sitapur, three each in Gonda and Kaushambi and one each in Faizabad, Hardoi and Chitrakoot. Besides, 17 people were injured in Sitapur and 11 in Faizabad.

Thunderstorm in May

Dust storm claimed 124 lives and injured more than 300 people in five states, earlier in May. The maximum casualty was reported from Uttar Pradesh where dust storm had claimed 73 lives. A total of 35 people were killed in Rajasthan, while eight were killed in Telangana, two people were killed in Punjab and six people succumbed to death in Uttarakhand due to a thunderstorm.
