New Delhi: A FIR was registered against two persons for insulting Indian national flag in Pilibhit city of Uttar Pradesh. Following the incident over two dozen religious leaders has threatened to go on a massive agitation and demanded police to quash the FIR.

The FIR was lodged under section 2 of the Prevention Insults to National Honour Act and section 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of IPC.

Reportedly, the FIR was registered based on the complaint of right-wing leaders. The leaders have alleged that a flag carried in Juloos-e-Gausiya procession had the dome of Ajmer Sharif in the middle instead of Ashok Chakra. While district president of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Sunniyat, Maulana Mohammad Fazle Ahmad Noori said that their flag had the tricolour as the National Congress has in their flag.

Police said that any action will be taken after the proper examination is done. And if needed we will also take the opinion of the legal expert on the matter, added the police.

In September, an FIR was lodged unknown persons for insulting national flag. A local resident, Vinod Nijhawan, in a complaint had alleged that the national flag was disrespected during the rally led by BJP leader Rajiv Jasrotia, who is a former minister, and BJP candidate Rahul Dev Sharma.

The complainant had presented a video clip purportedly showing a person, just behind the BJP legislator, holding the tricolour upside down during the procession which covered a distance of over two km, the official had said.
