Lucknow, Nov 29: Chaos broke out at many places in Uttar Pradesh as several voters found their names missing in voters list during the third and final phase of the urban local body elections in the state. In Barabanki, police lathicharged locals after a scuffle broke out over names missing in voter list. The policemen were also seen destroying tables and chairs on camera outside the polling booth.

Several such incidents of voters’ names missing were reported from different areas in the 26 districts that went to polls today. Many protested at Ward 48 of Muradabad on not finding their names on the voters list. Hundreds also protested in Jaunpur with over 500 names missing from the voters list. Similar cases were reported from Sitapur too as voters returned without voting on not finding their names on the list.

Meanwhile, incidents of bogus voting were also reported at several polling booths on Wednesday. The police arrested multiple people in Saharanpur, Baghpat and other places over bogus voting.

The counting of votes for the Uttar Pradesh local elections will take place on December 1.
