Varanasi: Acid attack on Russian woman by landlord’s grandson, victim in critical condition

The victim is currently in stable condition but is kept under intensive care unit

Varanasi, Nov 13: A Russian woman staying as a pay-guest in Varanasi was severely injured on Friday as she was attacked with acid. The 23-year-old woman was assaulted in the brutal manner by Siddharth Srivastava, the grandson of Hriday Srivastava in whose house she was staying. Following the attack, she was rushed to the trauma centre of Banaras Hindu University for immediate medication.

“A Russian national has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition as she sustained injuries after acid was thrown on her by a youth. A case has been registered following a complaint by her,” said sub-inspector Sanjiv Kant Mishra who has taken charge of the preliminary investigation. The house where she was staying is located in Nand Nagar. The Russian woman had arrived three days ago in the old city. According to the early probe conducted by the police forces, the girl was about to leave the country as her visa had expired.

The victim is currently in stable condition but is kept under intensive care unit. However, she recorded her statements to the police. She has alleged Siddharth Srivastava of attacking him early in the morning and hurling acid on her face. According to the Russian woman, the miscreant threw acid at her since he was miffed with her decision to return back to Russia.

Landlord Hriday Srivastava, along with his grandson Siddharth Srivastava will be taken into custody by the police.
