Dressed in white kurta payjama, wearing his regular photo-chromatic glass and speaking in the same rustic tone, this is how Nitish Kumar presented himself while starting his party’s poll campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The JDU chief targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government by taking jibes on several promises made during elections, one being bringing back the black money within 100 days.
Standing tall from Modi’s Lok Sabha Constituency in Varanasi, the ‘Modi-wave killer’ said that there is a huge difference between the saying and the doing of Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. He even taunted that the promises made by BJP leaders during the election campaigns are referred to as ‘Jumlas‘ later on. But, his main target was Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh and the ‘pseudo-nationalism’ campaign by them.
Questioning the RSS ideologue, Kumar took a jibe at them that those preaching the lessons of nationalism, never participated in the freedom struggle and now they want to mold the nationalism spirit. He said, “The ideologue of RSS, they do not have any association with the freedom struggle. And these days they are preaching the lessons of nationalism, will people learn from them?” Targeting more, Kumar even said he is happy that they (BJP) have started hoisting the national flag, else has been seen that they always hoisted the saffron flag. Referring to the old promises of Narendra Modi to bring back the black money, the ‘authentic Bihari’ said, “They (BJP) made promises during Bihar elections, of bringing black money within 100 days. But here we are, two years have passed. They (BJP) assured youth of employment, but where is employment?” He even said that people have voted him with great aspirations, but nothing happened. However, he alleged that just because BJP government is not able to fulfill it’s promise, they are raising emotional issues to divert attention.
Coming back to his poll agenda, Nitish took on BJP and liquor both at the same time. He said that his party wants “Sangh mukt Bharat” (RSS free India) and “Sharaab-mukt Samaaj” (Liquor less society). Kumar even said that what happened with BJP in Bihar can and will also take place in rest parts of India. With this elections campaign in Varanasi, Nitish Kumar yet again challenged Narendra Modi and his style of governance.
With Kumar’s being depicted as Arjuna and Sharad Yadav as Lord Krishna from the mythological epic “Mahabharata” in the recently released poster, the energetic leader has yet again proved that he is one alternative that one can look forward to as next Prime Minister in 2019.
