Varanasi: The Sankatmochan Mandir in Varanasi on Wednesday received a letter threatening a bomb blast in the temple.

The temple priest confirmed about receiving the letter and said that the temple trust has handed over the letter to the police.

“We received a letter threatening a bomb blast in Sankat Mochan Mandir (Varanasi), we informed the police and handed over the letter to them. We are taking precautions and police is investigating the matter,” said Mahant Vishambhar Nath Mishra.

“The letter had some names and a mobile number. Prima facie it appears someone may have done it to create trouble for the person named in letter due to personal enmity. It is an important place in Varanasi, we have tightened security,” said SSP Anand Kulkarni.

According to Zee News sources, a case has been registered in the Lanka Police Station. Two suspects — Jamadar Miya and Ashok Yadav — have been named in the FIR.

While the letter reportedly talks about the two suspects, it is yet to be ascertained who they are.

Sources said that the letter talks about executing a blast bigger than the 2006 bombings in Varanasi that left 28 people dead and over 100 injured.
