    Indian National Congress(INC) won the Danta constituency. Congress candidate Kantibhai Kalabhai Kharadi secured 86129 votes. BJP had fielded Kodarvi Maljibhai Narayanbhai, but he could win only 61477 votes in the Assembly elections which were held in two phases on December 9 and December 14.

    Independent candidate, Jigneshkumar Natvarlal Mewani, who was considered as a strong candidate since he decided to participate, won the Vadgam seat by securing 95497 votes. BJP’s Vijaykumar Harkhabhai Chakravarti could manage to garner 75801 votes in the election.

    Dhanera assembly constituency was claimed by the Indian National Congress (INC). Its candidate Nathabhai Hegolabhai Patel won the seat with 82909 votes. On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mavjibhai Maganbhai Desai could secure 80816 votes.

Ahmedabad, Dec 18:  The constituencies of Vav, Tharad, Dhanera, Danta, Vadgam voted on December 14 in the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. All these constituencies are in the Banaskantha district of the state. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am. In 2017, the BJP fielded Shankarbhai Lagdhirbhai Chaudhary from Vav constituency, who was the winner of the 2012 polls as well. On the other hand, the Congress also fielded Geniben Thakor, who was the runner-up in the 2012 assembly elections. In 2012, BJP’s Chaudhary won 72,640 votes to secure the seat, while Thakor Geniben Nagaji could win 60, 729 votes.

In Tharad, the BJP fielded sitting MLA Parabatbhai Savabhai Patel again in 2017, owing to his popularity witnessed in the 2012 polls. On the other hand, the Congress fielded Youth Congress President Gulabsinh Rajput from Tharad. In 2012, BJP’s Parabatbhai secured 68,517 votes, while Congress’s Chatrabhai Mavjibhai Patel won 65,044 votes.

In Dhanera, For assembly polls 2017, the BJP fielded Mavjibhai Desai, while the Congress fielded Nathabhai Patel. In 2012, Congress candidate Joitabhai Kasnabhai Patel won the seat with 87,460 votes. BJP’s Purohit Vasantbhai Ranchhodji could win only 57,169 votes.

In Danta, Congress fielded Kantibhai K. Kharadi for the 2017 assembly polls,. The BJP fielded Malajibhai Kodavari. This seat is reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled tribe. In 2012, Congress’s Kharadi was the sitting MLA and won the seat with 73,751 votes. On the other hand, the BJP lost this seat with its candidate Gamabhai Bhikhabhai Kharadi who could secure only 46,761 votes.

In Vadgam, the Congress fielded Manibhai Vaghela, while the BJP fielded Vijaybhai Harkhabhai Chakravarti for the 2017 assembly elections. In 2012, this seat was won by the Congress candidate Manilal Jethabhai Vaghela who won 90,375 votes. Raghabhai Fakirbhai Vaghela from the BJP won 68, 536 votes and lost the 2012 Gujarat assembly polls.
