New Delhi: In a major development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday resigned from his position, citing medical concerns. In an open letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he stated that he is following medical advice and resigning with immediate effect in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution of India. Expressing deep gratitude, he thanked the President for her support during his tenure. In the letter, he also extended his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other members of the Parliament. He also noted PM’s cooperation and support, adding that his time in office had been a valuable learning experience.
“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance wills Article 67(a) of the constitution,” his letter read.
“The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished at and embedded in my memory. I am deeply thankful for the invaluable experiences and insights I have gained as Vice President in our great democracy,” Dhankar wrote in the open letter.
In the letter, he expressed fulfilment in having played a role in India’s exceptional economic growth and historic development. As he steps down, Dhankhar expressed pride in Bharat’s rising global stature, reaffirming his strong belief in the nation’s bright future.

Fainted At Kumaon University Programme
Last month, he suddenly fainted during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Kumaon University. The program was held in Nainital. He fainted just after delivering his speech.
He lost consciousness during the event and was immediately attended by his medical team. He then went to the Raj Bhawan to rest.
Admitted To The Hospital Due To Cardiac Issues
In March, the former Vice President was rushed to AIIMS Delhi after a cardiac-related issue. He was discharged on March 12 following necessary medication and tests.
