Holi 2021: The coronavirus pandemic cast its shadow on the Holi festivities in the country with roads wearing a deserted look and people preferring to stay indoors, celebrating the festival with their family members in most of the places. Celebrations were low-key and subdued this time, as many state governments and Union Territories had banned public gatherings and imposed stringent restrictions in a bid to curb the spread of the deadly infection. However, people were seen enjoying the festival of colours, mostly flouting COVID-19 norms (without masks and not adhering to social distancing measures) at a number of places, including Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and elsewhere. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on Monday on the occasion of Holi and extended them his best wishes. In a tweet, Modi wished that this festival of joy and celebration infuses new energy and enthusiasm in everyone’s life.
