If you were worried by some of Vidya Vox’s latest mashups—that she may be moving away from her original musical style—then fear not, because her latest mashup will remind you why we all fell in love with her songs to begin with. After the release of her Zayn Malik and “ABCD 2” mashup, some commenters complained about the heavy influence of techno music.

Almost as direct reply to these haters, Vox recently released this mashup of Bollywood’s “Jashn-e-Bahaara” and Adele’s “When We Were Young.”
There are very few singers with a powerful voice as Adele’s—so covering her was a risky move for any singer. However, Vox held her own and was able to belt out the track in her unique style. Vox managed to blend together Adele’s track seamlessly with “Jashn-e-Bahaara” from the 2007 movie, “Jodhaa Akbar,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. The epic love story is one that fans still love today, along with the lovely track “Jashn-e-Bahaara,” which was penned by Javed Akhtar and originally sung by Javed Ali.
Vox is an Indian-born, American singer with years of training Carnatic classical music—which explains the ease in which she effortlessly blends tracks that could be poles apart. With Jomy George on the tabla and Shankar Tucker on the keyboard, the duo perfectly complemented Vox’s vocals. Vox described this latest video as a “one take, jam style video,” with the talented musicians.

From Cosmopolitan Magazine to India Today, Vox has been praised for her mash-up videos. Stars such as Hrithik Roshan and Diplo have even taken notice and posted about her music on Twitter.
Vox is one star on the rise to follow for sure! While I liked her last mashup of “Like I Would” and “Sun Saathiya,” this more recent cover is my favorite of the two. Take a listen for yourself and see which one you prefer!
