Gandhinagar, Dec 26: The new Gujarat government led by Vijay Rupani will take the oath of office and secrecy shortly at a grand ceremony at Sahivalaya Ground in Gandhinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah will attend the swearing-in ceremony along with the chief ministers of 18 states where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies are in power. Several union ministers including Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, and Ravi Shankar Prasad are also expected to attend Vijay Rupani‘s swearing-in ceremony.

Other ministers of the new cabinet will also take the oath. Governor OP Kohli will administer the oath to Rupani and his ministers. Names of ministers in Rupani’s cabinet have not been disclosed yet. “BJP president Amit Shah and the CM and the deputy CM will decide the names of the Cabinet,” a senior party leader was quoted as saying by The Hindu. Five days after the BJP won the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017, for the 6th time, Vijay Rupani was elected as the new chief minister of the state. The party also announced that Nitin Patel will also continue as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state. “The party has chosen Vijay Rupani as Legislature leader unanimously, Nitin Bhai Patel as the deputy Legislature party leader in a meeting today. Will inform you all about the swearing in, soon,” announced union minister Arun Jaitley.

On December 23, a delegation met Gujarat governor Om Prakash Kohli with a letter staking claim to form the government in the state. Sources said that senior party leaders met Amit Shah to finalise the names of the ministers in Rupani’s cabinet. According to the reports, Vijay Rupani will have less than 20 ministers in his cabinet. The BJP had registered a landslide victory in Gujarat winning 99 seats in the 182-member Assembly.

In other reports, a labourer died and two got injured while setting up a stage at New Secretariat complex for Vijay Rupani‘s swearing-in ceremony. After the ceremony, Rupani will host a lunch for Modi and senior leaders at the Mahatma Mandir.
