Mumbai, April 27: The death of Vinod Khanna after a prolonged illness has shocked the entire Bollywood. Vinod Khanna impressed both, cinema lovers and critics, with his performance. Born in a trader family in Peshawar, Vinod Khanna too had to bear the brunt of Partition of India. His family moved to India after seeing the devastation that partition brought to the country. Here are 5 less known facts about him.

1. Vinod Khanna had literally bleed during the shooting of “Mera Gaon, Mera Desh” when Dharmendra beat him with the belt. Dharamendra recounts that the actor did not hesitate a moment as the beating would bring the film to reality.
2. Khanna received critical acclaim for his performance in the film Achanak. He had to kill his wife after he finds her adultery.
3. Khanna also broke the taboo about lovemaking in the films of 1970’s. His performance with Shabana Azmi in Shaque (1976) was considered too bold for times resulting in a stir.
4. Known for taking unpopular decisions, Vinod Khanna retired from the films when he was giving hit films. His search for spiritual satisfaction took him to Osho.
5. Khanna proved his mettle in politics too. After joining the Bharatiya Janta Party in 1997, he represented the Gurdas Parliamentary seat four times in the Lok Sabha. He became the Minister of External Affairs State in the National Democratic Alliance government led by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
