Chandigarh, Jan 9: After the arrest of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, the noose is now tightening around Vipassana Insaan, the Dera chairperson. Vipassana, who was among the top contenders for succeeding Ram Rahim as Dera chief is now facing arrest. An arrest warrant has been issued against Vipassana Insan by Panchkula Court in connection with violence after Ram Rahim’s conviction in August.

Vipassana Insan was grilled in October 2017 by the Special Investigating Team of the Haryana Police in connection with the violence which broke out following the sect head’s conviction in two rape cases. As the spokesperson of Dera, she was heard appealing for peace soon after Ram Rahim was convicted.

Vipassana Insan is better known by Dera followers as the second adopted daughter of Ram Rahim after Honeypreet. Thirty-five-year-old Vipassana joined the Dera right after completing her college studies and is currently the chairperson of Dera Sacha Sauda.

Violence had erupted in Panchkula and Sirsa, the Dera headquarters, which claimed 41 lives–six died in Sirsa–and left nearly 200 injured in the August 25 violence, which broke out after Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s conviction. Ram Rahim has been sentenced to 20 years in jail over the two cases.

The SIT had in October 2017 asked Vipassana to appear in Panchkula in connection with the FIR in which the sect head’s confidante Honeypreet Insan, Dera spokesperson Aditya Insan and some other top functionaries are accused of sedition, conspiracy and other charges.

Honeypreet was arrested in October for allegedly masterminding the violence that had broken out after Ram Rahim’s conviction.
