New Delhi: Come tomorrow and the entire country will observe Janata Curfew by staying at home from 7 AM to 9 PM. Urging for the curfew, PM Narendra Modi has requested all Indians to come out in their balcony and applaud the services extended by airlines’ staff, the cleanliness staff, those who deliver food, those who drive railways, bus or autorickshaws, government officials, policemen and the media etc, by clapping. Terming them as ‘Rashtra Rakshaks’, PM Modi said that the country was indebted to their services. While the announcement has invited both praises and flak, people are showing interest to make it a hit. The residents of a Bengaluru Housing Society even practised clapping and beating plates. Several housing societies followed the suit. Also Read - One Should Not Get Tested For Coronavirus Just For Fashion, Says Health Secretary

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said clapping will not help. “What we need right now is cash relief and tax sops, besides relief in repayment of loans as part of a big economic package. Take immediate steps,” he tweeted. He called the ongoing coronavirus pandemic crisis a ‘heavy blow’ on India’s ‘fragile economy,’ also taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to applaud doctors and medical professionals during Sunday’s ‘Janata Curfew.‘
