In view of heavy water flow over the track reported between Valathol Nagar and Wadakanchery in Thrissur several trains have been canceled both fully and partially, with others being rescheduled.

The toll rose to 23 in the landslides that hit Kerala’s hilly Wayanad district on Tuesday, according to state Health Minister Veena George. George, speaking to reporters, said 23 bodies have been recovered so far and were kept in various hospital morgues. Among the deceased were four individuals, including a child, who tragically lost their lives in Chooralmala town. Furthermore, in Thondernad village, an one-year-old child from a Nepali family succumbed to the disaster. The devastation continued as three more bodies, one of them a five-year-old, were found along the riverbanks near Pothukal village. The situation remains dire, with hundreds feared to be trapped under the debris, although official confirmation is pending. State Revenue Minister K Rajan reported that over 70 injured individuals have been hospitalized, underscoring the urgent need for rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Southern railway has enforced traffic regulations including full and partial cancellation of around 17 train services operating in the State following heavy waterlogging in central Kerala. A statement issued by the Railways here on Tuesday said that given heavy water flow over the track reported between Valathol Nagar and Wadakanchery in Thrissur a slew of trains are cancelled fully and partially and rescheduled.

• Train No. 16649 Mangaluru Central – Kanyakumari Parasuram Express will be short terminated at Shoranur on 30.7.24.
• Train No. 16326 Kottayam – Nilambur Road Express will be short terminated at Angamali on 30.7.24.
• Train No. 12075 Kozhikode – Thiruvananthapuram Central Janshatabdi Express will commence service from Ernakulam Jn. instead of Kozhikode on 30.7.24.
• Train No. 16650 Kanyakumari – Mangaluru Central Parasuram Express will commence service from Shoranur Jn. on 30.7.24.
