Raipur, Jun 10: Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Sunday lashed out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi over asking what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done in four years since his government came to power. Speaking at an event in Ambikapur of Surguja in Chhattisgarh, he lambasted the Congress chief and said that the BJP is not answerable to him.

“Rahul Gandhi asks Modi ji what did he do in 4 yrs. I would like to tell him we aren’t answerable to you. People gave us right to be in power. You’re asking us about last 4 yrs, people are asking you about last 4 generations. Why was there no development,” Shah said.

The BJP president, taking his address further, hailed the government at the Centre. He said that this government has placed India in a more respectful position before the world. ” Narendra Modi govt secured our borders. Pak used to attack us day&night. But under this govt our forces went there, executed surgical strike & returned chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. This govt has placed India in a more respectful position before the world,” he asserted.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh also addressed the public rally and questioned the Congress over their 60 years of rule. “Congress is opposing Vikas Yatra. I would like to ask people of Surguja, did Congress ever provide you rice at Rs 1/kg? Did they ever provide you medical insurance? Did they ever do that in their 60 years of rule,” he said.

He also assured the people of Surguja that the region will soon have air connectivity. “We’re providing proper road & rail connectivity to Surguja. The region already has internet connectivity. Soon Surguja will also have air connectivity. Hawai chappal pehnne walon ka hawai jahaz se safar karne ka sapna poora hoga,” he said.

The Congress had criticised the ruling party for turning a government event into a mega show of BJP. Speaking to the media, Congress’s Shailesh Nitin Trivedi accused the BJP of hijacking a state government’s occasion and turning it into a political campaign at a time when Assembly polls are due later this year. To this, BJP retorted by claiming that the arrangements have been made to welcome the party president. It also assured that no party flag will be present at the event.

Amit Shah is in Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur district to attend the ongoing ‘Vikas Yatra’ of the Raman Singh-led state government. He will later attend the State Core Group meeting where he is likely to review the BJP’s preparation for the Assembly polls due later this year. The first phase of Yatra will culminate on June 14 at Bhilai in Durg where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join.
