Kolkata, October 5: West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Dilip Ghosh was heckled by the protesters of Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) on Thursday. Protesters also forced him to postpone his meeting over restoring peace in Darjeeling. Infuriated protesters also heckled other leaders of the saffron party. Also Read - UP Gram Panchayat Election Results 2021: Samajwadi Party Wins Big In Modi's Varanasi | Full List of Newly Elected Gram Pradhans Here

Ghosh alleged the protest was engineered by the Trinamool Congress. He was quoted by PTI as saying, “These protests are fuelled and funded by the TMC. Except GJM and Bimal Gurung, all other hill parties are mere extra players who are working on behalf of the TMC. The people of the hills are with the BJP and the GJM and that is why we have received so much support wherever we are going.” Also Read - Tejasvi Surya Controversy: Govt Asks Twitter to Remove Bengaluru MP's Tweet Linking Terrorism to Islam

Ghosh added, “Hundreds of locals greeted us and shared their problems with us. The response has been tremendous.” He claimed peace returned to the region after his intervention. However, this claim was refuted by former GJM leader Anit Thapa. BJP is trying to foment tensions in the region, Thapa claimed. He said, “What was it (BJP) doing for the three-and-a-half months when the hills were burning? Now that peace has returned, it wants to create trouble.”

The region has been in a state of turmoil for the last three months, with the Gorkhaland Janmukti Morcha spearheading an indefinite strike to press for their demand for a separate Gorkhaland state.
