Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal President Dilip Ghosh on Saturday said that the saffron party will play the role of warrior Arjuna from epic Mahabharata and win most of the seats in the state. Ghosh said that BJP’s focus, for now, was the Lok Sabka 2019 polls and then the assembly polls in the state.

He went on to compare the party’s winning spirit to that of Arjuna and said just like the warrior, BJP had set its goal- of winning at least 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state before gaining victory in the 2021 assembly elections.

Speaking at the end of the two-day state executive meeting, Ghosh said that the party has given main priority to both the Lok Sabha 2019 polls and the assembly elections. He added that the party’s state unit has been asked to complete all the work assigned to them before the onset of Durga Puja.

Ghosh further said, “So far our role was like Sanjay (narrator of the action of the Kurukshetra battle) in the Mahabharata and now our role will be that of Arjuna (seen as the greatest warrior among the Pandavas).”

He added, “We have set our target of winning 25 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in 2019 and the state assembly election in 2021 and we must achieve it.” Adding to it, Ghosh said that the upcoming polls were quite important for the party and it has been preparing for this at various levels and measures are being taken to avert the violence-like state which took place during the May panchayat poll in the state.

He further said that BJP will take out a procession- Rath Yatra after Durga Puja and other festivals to gear up for the general election. The Rath chariots will be named after saints and a tour of all the42 Lok Sabha constituencies across the state will commence. The month-long Rath Yatra will begin from December 2018 and continue till January 2019.
