Kolkata: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was found dead in Gopiballabpur of Jhargram district in West Bengal. The BJP worker has been identified as Raman Singh. He was found dead on Saturday night.
In another incident, two BJP workers Ananta Guchait and Ranjit Maity were shot at on Saturday night in Bhagabanpur of East Medinipur district. Both the injured were admitted to hospital.
The incident took place a day before the sixth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 in the state. Eight constituencies in the state – Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur – will vote on Sunday, May 12. The ruling Trinamool Congress, the BJP, the Congress and the Left Front constituents – the CPI(M), the CPI and the AIFB – are the main contenders in the state.
The counting of votes in the state will be held on May 23.
