Kolkata, March 3: There may be trouble mounting for Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya as reports say that he is likely to be questioned in connection with the child trafficking case that has surfaced in West Bengal. A report on TV channel India Today stated that the police are likely to intensify the probe and may quiz Vijayvargiya, who has been reportedly named by one of the accused in the case. Vijayvargiya had earlier said that his party did not trust any investigation by the West Bengal government.
Earlier this week, the BJP removed Juhi Chowdhury as its West Bengal Mahila Morcha General Secretary after she was arrested in connection with the case. Juhi Chowdhury was arrested on Tuesday close to the India-Nepal border in the Darjeeling district by the CID in connection with her alleged involvement in the child trafficking racket in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri. She was on the run after her name was linked to the case. She was arrested from the Batasi area under Kharibari police station in Siliguri on Tuesday. Chowdhury was produced in court on Wednesday and was sent to 12 days of CID remand by the Jalpaiguri District Court.
Chandana Chakraborty, another accused arrested in the case had named Juhi Chowdhury in the case. Chandana Chakraborty is the chairperson of Jalpaiguri-based child adoption centre Bimala Sishu Griho. She was arrested with Chief Adoption Officer Sonali Mondal for allegedly trafficking at least 17 children. Chakraborty reportedly claimed that she went to Delhi with Chowdhury to seek help for her organisation and claimed the BJP leader did all the negotiations with the senior leadership. Chakraborty has also pointed at the alleged involvement of BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and women’s wing president Roopa Ganguly in the case.
Roopa Ganguly has claimed that she was being framed. “It is all being done to actually frame me. She is being used as a pawn, this will not scare us,” Ganguly said. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh had denied the allegation saying Chowdhury was being victimised as part of a larger political conspiracy.
Along with Chakraborty and Sonali Mondal, Manas Bhowmik, Chandana’s brother, was also earlier arrested by the CID in the case.
