Kolkata, June 14: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared a half-day holiday for married men on June 19 on the occasion of Jamai Shashti, to celebrate the Day of the Damaad. The order issued by Finance department said that this year on June 19, on the occasion of Jamai Sashti, the governor was pleased to declare that all State Government offices, Urban and Rural Bodies, Corporations, Undertakings, Educational institutions and other offices institutions under the control of Government of West Bengal would be closed at 2:00 PM, a news channel reported. However, there are few exceptions to this holiday as there is no half-day off for the Offices of the Registrar of Assurances, Kolkata, the Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata and the West Bengal State Beverages Corporation Ltd. Recently, a fake notification declaring a government holiday from June 12 to 16 for Eid festival celebration went viral. To that, the Kolkata police issued a clarification saying that, “those who have masterminded this (fake notification) will be strictly dealt with as per law.”
The half-holiday announced by the WB government also received several inquiries. Even though, the notification was issued in the name of the Governor, many sections of the office was not aware of the holiday notice.
