West Bengal Govt Has Soft Approach Towards Rohingyas, Outgoing BSF DG Reiterates His Claims, Calls it 'Statement of Fact'

New Delhi: Outgoing BSF Director General (DG) K K Sharma on Friday reiterated his claims that Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has a soft approach towards Rohingyas.

“It’s a statement of fact and I don’t want to get into a fresh controversy,” said Sharma, while addressing a press conference. Earlier this month, Sharma had said that West Bengal is ‘slightly friendly’ to the Rohingyas and has set up special camps for about 70 such families.

He further stated,”We have successfully contained the influx of Rohingyas. However smaller groups often try to enter but we haven’t allowed them to enter. It is a serious and constant problem. This will remain a challenge for BSF.”

Speaking about the CIBMS (Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System), Sharma asserted that this technology is foolproof, no doubt about it. “It’s only 11 km now but borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh are more than 6500 km. In future, our borders will be more secure,” he added.

Meanwhile on Thursday, the government had appointed Rajni Kant Mishra as the Director-General of Border Security Force (BSF). Mishra. a 1984 batch Indian Police Service officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, will head the BSF till August 31, 2019.
