Nikhil Nirmal is the current District Magistrate of Alipurduar and the video shows both him and his wife beat up a local youth inside the Falakata police station in the presence of inspector-in-charge Soumyajit Ray.
Police sources said the youth had made lewd comments on Nirmal’s wife’s Facebook page. Soon, he was summoned to the police station and the duo started beating him up. In the video, Nirmal can be heard threatening the use by saying, “I will not let you do anything against me in my district. I will enter your house and kill you.”
The husband and wife duo take turns to beat him. Nirmal’s wife is heard asking, “At whose behest did you make such comments?” While the youth pleads for mercy, the duo continues beating him up.
The episode unfolded at the police station without the District Magistrate or his wife filing an official complaint even as they took turns to beat him up. When this correspondent tried reaching Nirmal, he neither answered nor returned the calls. The inspector-in-charge too did not answer calls despite several attempts. Nirmal, is a 2011 Bengal cadre IAS officer and hails from Kerala. (With Inputs From Pooja Mehta)
