West Bengal: Six Die, 20 Injured After Bus Falls in Canal in Hooghly; Rescue Operation Underway

Kolkata: Six people on Tuesday died after a bus fell into a canal in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Tuesday. Further, 20 people were reported to be injured in the bus accident. “The bus overturned and fell into the Dakatiya Khaal (a canal) on Haripal Road this morning. The injured were rushed to hospital,” a police official said.

In an earlier incident, at least 30 people were killed and eight injured when a bus carrying over 40 artists of an opera team fell down a 300-feet gorge in Odisha’s Deogarh district, officials said. Fire services DG Binay Behera said 27 bodies had been recovered from the spot during the rescue operations while three people died while being rushed to the district headquarters hospital.
