Kolkata: A suspected bomb was recovered from the railway track at North 24 Parganas in Ashok Nagar on Wednesday. A bomb disposal squad soon reached the spot and defused the bomb following which the train operations on Bangaon section resumed. (Live updates on Bharat Bandh Day 2)

Earlier in the day, speaking to ANI, Nikhil Kumar, CPRO Eastern Railway, had said, “It’s a suspected bomb. Our bomb disposal squad has already rushed to the spot. After disposal of the bomb, line will be cleared.”

The state is witnessing sporadic incidents of violence in the wake of 2-day nationwide strike. According to a report in PTI, stones were pelted at school buses in Howrah and Coochbehar districts. Senior CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty was arrested again earlier in the day for rallying at a bus stop in Jadavpur.

On Tuesday, day 1 of the Bharat Bandh, the normal life in the state was largely unaffected. However, small clashes in some parts of TMC-ruled state were reported. While a school bus was pelted with stones in Champadali area of North 24 Parganas on January 8, hundreds of bandh supporters were arrested by the police for blocking roads, railway and Metro lines, pelting stones and vandalising government vehicles.
