Three social security schemes were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, i.e. Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) in Kolkata amid huge hullabaloo on May 9. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana’s success prompted the Narendra Modi-led Centre government to roll out another schemes to help the backward class of the society.

It comes as a good news for people from all walks of life and people who haven’t had access to such future-securing schemes earlier. The schemes comes as a huge boost for the poor people as they will now be able to avail insurance-pension schemes at the cost as low as Rs 330 per year. We take a look at the salient features of Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana below.

The PMJJBY scheme will give citizens benefits of life insurance worth Rs 2 lacs at the premium amount of only Rs 330 per year. People who fall in the age group of 18 to 50 years will eligible to enrol their name in the PMJJBY scheme. The premium in PMJJBY will be deducted by auto debit facility. The annual period of insurance for all the three social security schemes will be from June 1 to May 31. Also, the person would be able to enrol these three schemes through one savings bank account only. “I chose Bengal to launch these schemes because to quote Gopal Krishna Gokhale, ‘What Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow’, said PM Narendra Modi while launching the schemes in Kolkata. In India, only 20 per cent of citizens have Life Insurance, only 4 per cent citizens have Accidental Insurance, and 11 per cent workers gave Pension Schemes; as per the reports by Ministry of Finance. In order to reach out to the masses especially poor and rural population, the scheme by Narendra Modi government comes as a boon to the people belonging to unprivileged class.
