New Delhi: As the Narendra Modi-led government is leaving no stone unturned in beautifying Gujarat ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to Twitter and questioned the Centre over the huge amount of money being spent for the grand event. She also raised questions on the role of a committee (Trump Nagrik Abhinandan Samiti) which is the organiser for ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Ahmedabad. Attaching a news report along with her tweet, Priyanka said,”Rs 100 crore is being spent on the visit of President Trump. But this money is being spent through a committee. The members of the committee do not know that they are its members. Does the country not have the right to know which ministry gave how much money to the committee? And what is the government hiding in the garb of the committee?”
Reports have claimed that the ‘Abhinandan Samiti’ has spent over Rs 100 crore on the beautification of the city ahead of the US President’s visit.
Notably, President Trump and First Lady Melania are scheduled to travel to Ahmedabad, Agra and New Delhi on February 24 and 25. Trump has claimed that PM Modi has informed that there will 10 million people to greet him on his arrival for his maiden visit to India.
