New Delhi, May 16: Union Minister of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday announced that the students of 38 Central universities including Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be able to acess free WiFi from July 2017. The project of providing WiFi in these 38 Central universities was proposed in August 2016 and the purpose of it is to provide a Wi-Fi enabled campus network which would be connected with the National Knowledge Network (NKN). This way, the authorities can grab the ICT in teaching. As per the reports, it will benefit all the learners in higher education institutions at any given moment.
According to the reports, the WiFi enabled campus area in these 38 Central universities will help in providing low cost and affordable high quality e-content of all learners in the country. It was also rported last year that on behalf of MHRD, National Informatics Centre Services Inc (NICSI) sent out a request for proposal (RFP) for supply, commissioning & integration of hardware, software & services in Wi-Fi enabled campus area network in 38 Central universities.
The announced 38 Central universities that have been included in the project for the creation of WiFi enabled campus area are:

A few companies have also been involved in site survey, design, supply, install, commission, integrate and maintenance of Wi-Fi enabled campus network and other IT infrastructure. As per the reports, the bidder do the sites survey, prepare the drawings, laying and cable route plans, rack locations, node placement, Wi-Fi access points placement, etc in the universities in consultation with NICSI/university.
