Will See What to do When Bypolls Are Announced, Says MK Alagiri

New Delhi: Hours after MK Stalin filed his nomination for the post of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president, former union minister MK Alagiri said that he will see what to do when bypolls are announced. Talking to news agency ANI, Alagiri said, “What do I do? You want me to go and propose his name? We will see what to do when bypolls are announced.”

Earlier in the day, MK Stalin had filed nomination for the post of DMK president. Stalin has been serving the party as its working president since January. Stalin will be standing against his brother MK Alagiri in the party presidential election, which is scheduled to be held on August 28.

Alagiri was expelled from the political outfit in March 2014 by Karunanidhi, who was the then president of DMK, for slanderous attacks on senior party members and carrying out anti-party activities.

After DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) patriarch Karunanidhi’s demise, the rift within the party came to the fore as MK Alagiri challenged brother MK Stalin’s elevation as the party president. He claimed real cadres are with him. Addressing media at the Marina beach memorial of Karunanidhi, Alagiri had said that he is pained by what is happening inside the party.

“My father’s true relatives are all are on my side. All the supporters in Tamil Nadu are on my side and are encouraging me only. Only time will give the answers…that is all I am willing to say now,” Alagiri had asserted.

Due to bad health, M Karunanidhi had named Stalin as his political heir. The transition of power was formalised when Stalin was made the working president of the party. The five-time Chief Minister, who was 94, died at a private hospital in Chennai due to age-related ailments.
