New Delhi, Aug 12: In yet another shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three persons who promised her job, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

Police said that a woman was rescued by the locals and informed them. On receiving the information, police reached the spot and brought the woman to the station.

In her statement, the woman said that three people brought her on the pretext of giving a job and gang-raped her on Saturday evening and dumped her near a bypass.  Police said the woman, who was estranged from her husband, is a resident of Kuakhia area of Jajpur. “We have recorded her statement and initiated an investigation,” said Korei Police Station Inspector Chinmaye Sahu.

In another incident, a 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The victim, a resident of the SR Nagar area of the city had informed the police that the incident took place in March, but she did not approach the police then.

Notably, coming down heavily on the Bihar government over the alleged sexual exploitation of minors at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur, the Supreme Court recently pulled up the state government for funding the NGO and added that women are being raped “left, right and center. ‘Who is giving money to the shelter home in the state?’ the court asked. Referring to National Crime Records Bureau data, the top court said that every six hours a woman is raped in India. Amicus Curiae informed the court that no compensation was paid to alleged victims of sexual assaults at Muzaffarpur shelter home.
