New Delhi: Emphasising on the need for strict laws for women security, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that a country cannot progress without their support. Addressing a gathering at Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan, Bhagwat said asked men to change their mindset and treat women as goddesses rather than slaves.

“Women are no lesser than men. They have been handling family affairs and acting as leaders in major sectors, which is a positive indication,” said the RSS chief.

Notably, the Opposition parties have been attacking the RSS for being an organisation exclusively for men. A few days back, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has alleged that women have no place in the RSS.

Reacting to Gandhi’s allegation, Mohan Bhagwat had said that the issue of letting women become a part of RSS was deliberated upon during its inception in 1925 by KB Hedgewar. However, it was decided to keep a separate organisation for women called ‘Rashtriya Sewa Samiti’
