New Delhi, June 14: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Pannalal Shakya has again stoked a new controversy. Addressing an event in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, the BJP MLA has asked women to remain infertile rather than giving birth to such kids who are not ‘sanskari’ and who defile the society.
Accusing opposition Congress party of ignoring the poor, he said, “The Congress came up with the slogan of ‘Gharibi Hatao’ but wiped out the poor instead. There are women who give birth to such leaders. Women should rather remain infertile than produce kids who are not ‘sanskari’ & who defile the society.”
According to reports, the BJP lawmaker also said that whenever we read about a positive incident, we equate the mother of the concerned person with Kaushalya, who gave birth to Lord Ram.
This is not the first time that Shakya has courted controversy with his unwarranted advice. Earlier, in March, he had advised girls not to make boyfriends if they want everything to be well. “Why do girls make boyfriends? If they stop doing this, the atrocities against them will stop,” he was quoted as saying in a report.
Shakya also said that boys should not adopt the modern culture of ‘making girlfriends’. He said that observing International Women’s Day is a foreign tradition.
Earlier, the BJP MLA was in the news in December last year for making a remark on Virat Kohli. After the cricketer’s marriage to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma in Italy, Shakya had questioned Kohli’s ‘patriotism’.
