Ahmedabad, June 12: In an appalling incident, two married women in a lesbian relationship committed suicide on Monday, after killing the three-year-old daughter of one of them. The two threw the child into the waters of Gujarat’s Sabarmati river, before themselves plunging into it.
The bodies of the deceased women – identified as 30-year-old Asha Thakor and 28-year-old Bhavna Thakor – were recovered after they were found floating near Gurjari Bazaar side.
Megha, the three-year-old daughter of Asha, was breathing when she was brought out, but was declared dead on arrival when rushed to the nearby VS Hospital.
According to reports, the women ended their lives because of the society’s resistance to their relationship. “We have left this world to live with each other. The world did not allow us to stay together. We did not have any men with us,” the two wrote on the riverfront’s wall with a red lipstick before committing suicide.
“This world did not allow us to stay together. When will we meet again? When will we meet.. perhaps in the next birth… we will meet again,” read another message by them on a paper plate.
Asha, a resident of Bavla, got married 10 years ago and had two daughters – three-year-old Megha and another aged six. Bhavna, a resident of Rajoda village near Bavla, had two sons aged 14 and 13 years.
The women were reportedly in a relationship for the past six to seven months when they started working together in a factory in Bavla.
