Karnataka, May 19: BS Yeddyurappa on Saturday resigned as the Karnataka chief minister after giving a long speech in Vidhana Soudha minuted before the crucial floor test to prove the majority. The BJP leader announced his resignation saying that the party didn’t have the numbers to prove majority. Reacting to the resignation, Rahul Gandhi said that this is the victory of the people and the democracy. The Congress president attacked the PM saying his “corruption-free” India is a lie and “he himself is corruption”.
Yeddyurappa’s resignation was followed by reactions from political leaders across the country. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu told ANI, “Right now news has come that BS Yeddyurappa has resigned as Karnataka’s CM, are all of you happy? All those who believe in democracy are happy. Everyone will be happy about it. PM & BJP Pres tried to deride democracy. What message did they give by encouraging the corrupt? BJP brought back Janardhan Reddy to the forefront and did politics.”
Dear Brothers & Sisters of Karnataka,
I thank you for your verdict.
It has been an honour to serve you as Chief Minister for the past 5 years.
I am confident the Congress Party & the new Government we form, will continue to work for the best interests of our state & our people

As I take off from Auckland, news comes in of BSY’s resignation. That so many MLAs proved impervious to the BJP’s blandishments is an encouraging sign for Indian democracy. And that the party with the highest percentage of votes will now form the government w/an ally is gr8 news!

This is a big blow for them(BJP) and I think what they had been planning all along for 2019 has failed, they will now have to rethink and alter their strategies: Mayawati on BS Yeddyurappa’s resignation as Karnataka CM. #FloorTest pic.twitter.com/NW9AiPq410

The unsavoury drama has ended . The Governor in cahoots with the BJP should not have tried to manipulate the outcome .
Full marks to the Congress and JDS .

The real issue in recent events in Karnataka is that BJP snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Monopoly and and arrogance causes that

BJP’s attempts to subvert democracy have miserably failed in Karnataka. BJP’s lust for power through foul means stands completely exposed. Will BJP learn any lesson now ?
India’s judiciary has risen to the occasion and has safeguarded our democracy.
