Karnataka, May 19: BS Yeddyurappa on Saturday resigned as the Karnataka chief minister after giving a long speech in Vidhana Soudha minuted before the crucial floor test to prove the majority. The BJP leader announced his resignation saying that the party didn’t have the numbers to prove majority. Reacting to the resignation, Rahul Gandhi said that this is the victory of the people and the democracy. The Congress president attacked the PM saying his “corruption-free” India is a lie and “he himself is corruption”.

Yeddyurappa’s resignation was followed by reactions from political leaders across the country. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu told ANI, “Right now news has come that BS Yeddyurappa has resigned as Karnataka’s CM, are all of you happy? All those who believe in democracy are happy. Everyone will be happy about it. PM & BJP Pres tried to deride democracy. What message did they give by encouraging the corrupt? BJP brought back Janardhan Reddy to the forefront and did politics.”
