Lucknow, April 23: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in his latest shocker, banned the use of red and blue beacons for the cabinet ministers and officers in the state. The latest decision comes in the wake of the decision of Modi cabinet to ban the use of red beacons for cabinet ministers to prevent the misuse of beacons. In an official communique, the officers and the cabinet minister have been informed about the decision.

Army vehicles, ambulances, fire brigades and police vehicles will exempt from this decision, officials said. A decision was also taken by Adityanath to curtail the security cover of politicians and others. The order will come in effect from Friday.

Adityanath also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision and said it would go a long way in ending VIP culture in the country and bring relief to the people.

Soon after the cabinet decision on Wednesday, cabinet ministers Siddhartha Nath Singh and Rita Bahuguna Joshi had removed their beacons from official vehicles.

In a draft notification issued by Ministry of Transport, the government has proposed for ban on beacons on escort vehicles deployed in the security of VVIPs. The notification proposes that the vehicles to be used in emergency services can use multi-coloured beacons.
