Yogi Adityanath in his first interview as UP CM: Slaughterhouse crackdown as per law, says misconceptions about my saffron-clad look

New Delhi: Breaking silence on the condemnation by opposition parties on his government’s decision to ban illegal slaughterhouses, Uttar Pradesh Chief Miniter Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that he only tried to impose law without any discrimination. In an interview to RSS weekly ‘Organiser‘, the chief minister said, “I am doing nothing on my own. The National Green Tribunal in 2015 and the Supreme Court in 2017 have given many adverse observations on illegal butcher houses in the state and gave certain directions to the state. We have just followed those instructions. You cannot call illegal as legal.”

Reiterating that proper law and order will be maintained in the state, Yogi Adityanath said,”No legal operator will be harassed, I can promise you that. Moreover, nobody can be allowed to play with the health of people of the state.” The newly-appointed chief minister also said that he will follow the policies and programmes of PM Narendra Modi.

Speaking about corruption-free government, Yogi said,”We have told all the principal secretaries and secretaries that we want a corruption-free administration and we would like to use their experience for it. I have told the officers to make UP roads free from potholes by June 15 and for this a massive campaign would be undertaken for the first time in the state.”

On being asked about the Supreme Court’s decision on Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid dispute, Yogi stated,”I welcome the observations made by the Supreme Court. As the government is not party to it, so the two parties in contention should have a dialogue and resolve the matter. If any help of the state government is needed, we are ready to provide that.”

Promising to win hearts of “all sections” the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said that many misconceptions were created about him. “Many people say I am saffron-clad, so there are many in the country who are averse to saffron.  We will win hearts of all sections of people with our style of working. We would spread a new idiom of happiness and prosperity”, Yogi Adityanath told the magazine.
