Lucknow, April 4: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath will chair Uttar Pradesh government’s first Cabinet meeting at 5 PM on Tuesday, April 4. Adityanath is likely to discuss key issues in the BJP’s poll manifesto such as farm loan waiver. The Cabinet meeting will be closely watched by the people of the state because of the promises Prime Minister Narendra Modi made during the Uttar Pardesh Assembly Elections campaigns, loan waiver being one of them.
“The cabinet meeting will be held in the evening on April 4,” state Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh told reporters on April 2. In the rallies, PM Modi had promised that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is voted to power in Uttar Pradesh, the party would waive the loan of all small and marginalised farmers of the state in the first Cabinet meeting of the government.
Since there had been no discussion on the loan waiver from the UP government since Yogi Adityanath took oath as the CM, other parties had been accusing the BJP of making false promises to the people of Uttar Pradesh. Upon which, the UP government had said that there’s a delay in the Cabinet meeting as the govt was charting out a proper plan for loan waiver and didn’t wish to take a decision in a hurry.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised loan waiver to the farmers to Uttar Pradesh in his assembly election rallies. There are around 2.30 crore farmers in Uttar Pradesh and nearly 2 crore farmers, who fall in the ‘small and marginal’ category, owe around Rs 62,000 crore to the banks which they couldn’t repay due to crop loss.
There has been issue of law and order in Uttar Pradesh and many parties had previously accused Akhilesh Yadav-led government of not taking care of the law and order in the state. This has been one of the prime agendas of the Yogi government.
One of the key issues in Uttar Pradesh is women safety. It has been expected that Yogi Adityanath will take up this issue to improve the law and order to assure a healthy environment for women. The Yogi government has already launched anti-Romeo squads to curb crime against women.
One of the major promises Prime Minister Narendra Modi made during his election campaigns was employment to the youth of Uttar Pradesh. With Yogi Adityanath taking over the reins of the state, the young people are expecting more jobs and opportunities for them.
BJP’s Sankalp Patra had promised that all the criminals who have been out on parole would be thrown back in jail just 45 days after being voted to power. In the first Cabinet meeting, Yogi Adityanath is likely to discuss this as well.
